img_16853alright, so i’m a little behind but i have several good excuses and the subject of this entry is only the first of them…  last friday night the  karaoke was thick and whoever wanted to pitch in on the 70/hr private rocker-room was welcome to come.  at first i was hesitant to commit and more-so, too cheap to fork out the dough but then i figured how many times do you get the pleasure of singing your favorite songs full blast with your friends in private?  most importantly, it was the night-cap to the ramen and friends’ and me so hungry’s happy-hour-hot-dog-tasting-food-blog-saga.  seemed like a good idea to me!

6. floppy javelin…

last thursday was my friend owen’s birthday and to celebrate he threw a show in his apartment.  it was a blast!   there were two sets,     the first,  george and friends from a band called javelin did a really cool instrumental improv set using small, home made instruments and radio transmitters hooked up to old-school boom-boxes so you could essentially hear the set from down the road. he was also wearing flannel so i was really excited.  the second set was this guy named matt that drove over from phili for the night.  he played stand-up bass and sang songs in english and portuguese.  this guy was really good.  before the show began owen gave me a quick tour of some remodeling he had done in the apartment.  since i was over last,  he got rid of everything except for his records and books, and turned his coat closet into a sitting room where his sister (ellen dubreuil) painted a world war 1 mural on the wall.  it looked really great and was a perfect place to sit and enjoy the live music.  funny enough, owen waited until the end of the night to announce it was in fact his birthday, so as soon as news broke, i felt the need to give a gift so i ran down the road and bought him a few starter logs for the fireplace.
